How to overcome barriers from day one

For those of us working in service industries, we know that it’s crucial to be trusted, appreciated and go-to person when working with our clients.

But how do we avoid delays in recovery, job search and return to work that can arise just because someone says they need time.

What is useful is to explore not only the problems that getting an outcome overcomes, but also the consequences of that problem if it is left ignored or delayed for an extended period of time.

As time goes on, initial problems become larger and can start to impact other areas – financial, physical, emotional – and the list continues to expand as time grows.

It is here where we can share with clients about these consequences of inaction, and responsibly highlight the fact that the sooner action is taken on the problem, the sooner they can move onto a higher quality of life and put the past behind them.

Exploring consequences by asking insightful questions is an effective way to overcome the ‘let me think about it’ client. It gives them an understanding that for every moment they take action, problems continue to grow.

This leaves them open to your support and strategies as they move forward.
